Master of Arts Clinical Psychology - Wits

Obert Rukato is a South Africa–based Clinical Psychologist with experience working across individual, group, institutional, and community mental health settings. His work integrates deep clinical expertise with systems-level thinking, enabling psychological care that is both personally transformative and socially responsive.
Trained in working with complex psychopathology, including psychosis, trauma-related conditions, and personality dynamics, Obert brings a grounded, relational, and culturally attuned approach to mental health care. He has particular interest in working with men and boys, adolescents, athletes, and high-risk populations, where issues of identity, belonging, masculinity, and vulnerability intersect. He also has a deep interest in working with psychosis and the intersections of spirituality and psychotic disorders.
Alongside clinical practice, Obert is actively engaged in group-based interventions, organisational work, and programme design, with a growing focus on leadership, policy-relevant practice, and doctoral research.
Obert works from a psychodynamic and relational foundation, meaning that his focus is on the use of the therapeutic relationship as a reflection of the clients real world engagements to process psychological difficulties. He believes in the importance of remaining attentive to the social, cultural, and spiritual contexts that shape people’s lives and works collaboratively to ensure that therapy feels relevant and meaningful. Whether you are seeking support for a specific difficulty or looking to better understand yourself, he strives to offer a space where you feel heard, supported, and able to work toward lasting change.
This is complemented by strong interests in systems-level impact, leadership, and research-informed practice. His current trajectory includes doctoral studies focused on youth, masculinity, sport, and psychosocial development, with the aim of contributing to policy, programme development, and large-scale mental health innovation
